We've all experienced it: waiting while a travel companion shops. This gentleman, stationed outside a Portuguese shop, embodied that universal experience particularly clear.

His patient—or perhaps resigned—demeanor provided compelling street photography material. As I observed and photographed, he cycled through various states of waiting: checking his phone, gazing at passersby, shifting position, and settling into that particular stillness that comes from accepting an indefinite wait.
